Management for Complex Technological Projects

Project Feasibility Studies
A corporation needed assurances that a new cable-television engineering design concept was technically viable prior to approaching the investment marketplace for funding. We put together a low-cost test program that proved the viability of the technology. The company was then able to sell its concept to the investment community.

Project Management
We managed the design and installation of 25 video theaters at college campuses nationwide. These theaters are capable of receiving satellite-delivered, high-definition video images so that a network can transmit high-definition movies to the colleges with full clarity. The theaters were designed to seat from 300-1,000 students. We managed all aspects of the project, including the actual installations. A proprietary, high-definition television transmission system was developed solely for this project.

Proposal, RFQ and Specification Preparation
We were asked to design a mobile Ku-band video production and uplink for a teleproduction company. As overall project managers, we wrote the specifications, published the RFQ and helped our customer select the vendors. The result was one of the premier transportable uplink units in the nation.

Site Selection and Real Estate Procurement
When a communications company needed to establish a Southern California satellite earth station facility, we led them to a previously abandoned earth station complex with "lots of potential." This fixer-upper was transformed into a state-of-the-art transmission center, saving our client hundreds of thousands of dollars and shaving months off their project timeline.

Vendor Selection and Contract Negotiations
We managed all overseas communications systems for a large federal credit union with branch operations in Asia. In a project using a combination of data multiplexing and voice compression technology, we were able to trim several hundred thousand dollars per year from the client's direct recurring expenses by simply re-negotiating service agreements and moving circuits to more aggressive vendors. Using a combination of transoceanic fiber-optic cable and satellite circuits, this credit union now has multiple, dedicated, overseas voice and fax tie-lines. The company's data throughput has increased by over 2,000% with its new system.
